Dog Adoption Update

Hello Everyone.

It is a bit of a chaotic week, so if I forget someone or something, please forgive me.

Congratulations to all of the dogs and the foster homes of the dogs that were adopted in May…

Finn and Sheldon were adopted together! Thought the people that adopted them originally could not keep them forever, I appreciate that they stuck with them until they could find their ne family, and I am amazed that they found a family in which they could stay together.

Cassie Lou went to a great home! She came into our rescue at about 10.5 tears old and was locky to find er new home in only 2 months. Big thanks to Dogtopia of Raleigh!!!

Hobbs, Isis and Troy were 3 of the 4 pups that had Parvo and stayed at the Hospital or quarantined at the center for about 2 weeks. Dawn Marie fostered all of these guys. Ollie is still for adoption, but Hobbs, Isis and Troy are all happy in their new families.

Sabrina Grace and Mr. Peabody were so special that their foster families couldn’t let them go. When they entered their foster homes, they really entered their forever homes!

Our little Sydney… What can I say, She entered our program in October of 2013 and through many medical ups and downs, she stayed with us for 6 months while she was tested and treated for sterile meningitis. It was a long road for her, with many hospital visits. In less than 2 weeks after being listed for adoption she found her forever home. Sydney will forever be on a low dose of Prednisone. For some people, this would have prevented her adoption. For her family, it will be part of their bonding experience. Her new dad and her will take their daily Prednisone together. Sarah will miss her, but is happy she is in her forever family.

Last but not least… Cami and her sister Kitty were 2 of the hoarding dogs that came to Second Chance in April of 2013. They loved each other but were adopted separately. Cami was returned to us after her family had another baby. Lucky for Cami, Kitty’s mom checks our website to see what is going on and saw Cami. Kitty and Cami have been reunited and will forever be together.

Thank you to all that foster and save lives!!

If you are currently waiting for a foster dog, please contact me Allison@secondchancenc.org call me and I will find a dog for you :)

This Saturday is the Cary Dog Days event. It is a huge event. If you are interested in going, it is from 9-2 (come and go as you please) this is a fun event for you and your dog. It is free to attend and there will be a ton of people with their dogs. If you would like to bring your foster out please let me know. many people come out to this for some time out with their dogs, but many also come out to find their new dogs. Tanner was adopted because he attended last year.

Our next Dog wash is at Unleashed on Creedmoor on 6/21/14 from 11-2. If you are available to help wash dogs, please contact Sarah at sarahw@secondchancenc.org

You may or may not know Chauncey, but he has been staying here at the center for a while. He just wanted me to tell you that he says Hi :)

Thanks for all that you do for the dogs of Second Chance.

Allison

Tia

This cute girl is Tia, a three year old shih tzu stray that we took in from the Wake County Animal Center. She was in need of immediate surgery for her left ear because someone had purposefully tied a string around it so tightly that it cut off the circulation, causing it to become badly infected and very painful. With the condition she was in, it could have been like that for weeks possibly, and we have no way of knowing for sure how long she had been suffering with it before coming into the Wake County shelter. We took her to Care First Animal Hospital at Oberlin where they treated her and did a necessary partial ear amputation.
She took a little while to recover and had to have a soft cone around her head so that she could not accidentally injure her ear and to give it time to heal.

Through all of it, she was was so sweet and now that she is better, her energetic and very playful personality has really come through-her foster mom has even nicknamed her "Muffin".
Tia loves to play fetch and would play it all day if it were up to her--and she enjoys long walks but also loves to just have her belly rubbed or to be curled up next to her person on the couch.
She is ready to find a forever home that will give her lots of attention and love!

Please go to www.secondchancenc.org to find out more about adopting her

Indira & Sicilian

Meet our perfect pairs!

When people decide that they are ready to adopt a cat, there are many things they think about, such as: what type of personality am I looking for? Do I want a kitten or an adult cat? Do I have a preference for what color or markings the cat has? What will I need to do to care for him/her, etc. One thing that many people may not even consider is: the added bonus of adopting two cats as a pair to be company for each other! As noted in an online article from Must love cats http://www.mustlovecats.net/Multiple-cats.html (retrieved Feb. 10th, 2014) :

"There are benefits to having multiple cats, however, such benefits will only occur when the additional cat or cats are well matched and have enough physical space to live together comfortably.

By having multiple cats they will provide each other with exercise, social interaction, and other forms of mental stimulation. Cats housed together have more opportunity to “be cats” by socializing and playing with each other, and this means they are less likely to be destructive or engage in other problematic behavior"
